Fiona's Little Accident by Rosemary Wells

- Oops! Maybe Fiona Should Have Listened To Her Mom? -

- From The Felix & Fiona Series -

Fiona and Felix, best friends, have been working on a volcano for Show and Tell. When Fiona wakes up the morning of Show and Tell, she is so excited to get to class that when her mom asks if she's used the bathroom, Fiona replies,
 “Yes, yes, Mama!”
But sometimes moms have a way of knowing.
“Are you sure?” she asks Fiona.
Fiona repeats her answer, but she isn’t telling the truth because she's so excited to get to school. She figures she’ll find time to use the bathroom at school. But the bus is late. She then thinks they might be chosen first for Show and Tell, so no time to use the bathroom. But they aren't chosen for some time. Finally, it’s their turn. Just as the volcano erupts . . . oops!

If only she had stopped to use the bathroom when she needed to!

What Concerned Me: The ending is a bit oversimplified, but it makes a good point.

What I Liked Best:  Fiona’s best friend Felix is very understanding and sympathetic, which is a good thing for kids to see. This is a wonderful story to help little ones realize that it’s not always best to wait until the last second to use the bathroom. The subject is handled very tastefully.
