by Michael Ian Black
The unlikely trio of a sad flamingo, a little girl with pigtails, and a potato comprise the cast of characters in the second book in the I'm Series by Michael Ian Black. The first being I'm Bored. In this book, the flamingo, whose text is always pink, announces that he is sad then asks the little girl if he will always feel that way.
The little girl, whose text is blue, gives a very good answer
"I don't think so."
Of course, the potato has to chime in (brown text)
"I was sad once."The flamingo is surprised that a potato would ever experience sadness.
This short text handles sadness with some humor, but at the same time with truthfulness and in a realistic manner.
What Concerned Me: Nothing
What I Liked Most: I love that this topic isn't sugar-coated but rather offers an avenue to invite dialogue. I was also impressed with the minimalistic pictures, but at the same time the depth they added to the text. All in all a great combination of author and artist.
