Shorty & Clem Blast Off! by Michael Slack

The Energetic And Zany Duo Are Back

Clem is a busy little blue bird trying to assemble his spaceship kit. Shorty, an energetic dinosaur,  offers to help, demonstrates that he's a good helper, then begs to help when Clem assures him that he is fine working by himself.

When the begging continues, Clem tries to find ways that Shorty will be out of the way but still think that he is helping.
"Make sure no one bothers me. That would be really helpful."
But it doesn't take long for Shorty to decide that watching is not the same as helping.
"All right, fine! Tell me when my spaceship is finished. That would be helpful."
Again, after watching Clem build the spaceship, Shorty wises up.
 "HEY! This still isn't helping. This is waiting. And this is boring."
Finally, Clem is at his breaking point. All he wants is to be left alone. Shorty ends up slinking away, then sitting down and sighing. And there he sits until there's a


My Thoughts:

What Concerned Me: The artwork wasn't my style. As far as the story, it had a feel-good ending, but it didn't seem too believable. 

What I Liked Best: The topic of needing "your own time" is a good one. And the book can lead to discussions regarding a good way to request quiet time.
