Grow Up, David! by David Shannon

 - No David! -

David and his older brother star in this newest book in the  "David"  series by David Shannon. David hears
"You're too little. Stop following me! Grow up, David!"
until he's ready to explode. After all, he's just trying to have a little fun and be a part of his older brother's world. But for all his efforts he just gets blamed for things and in trouble.

When his older brother trips him, they both end up being put in timeout chairs. His brother says,
"Thanks a lot, David!"
When David is finally allowed to play football with the big kids he gets hit hard trying to catch the ball and falls down.

How will an older brother react to that?

My Thoughts

What Concerned Me: It didn't seem entertaining or fun to see siblings not getting along for the majority of the story. It left me feeling almost sad.

Yes, the last page shows some kindness, but why not show both sides of a relationship all through the book, not just the last page?

And lastly, the illustration of David made me think of Halloween creepiness. I don't think it's unthinkable that some kids might have nightmares over the depiction of David.

What I Liked Best: The vibrant colors used in the book were very child-friendly.
