Ivy and the Lonely Raincloud by Katie Harnett

- Is That Raincloud Crying? -

A raincloud is sad because the sun has scared all of the other clouds away and it is lonely. It sets out on a journey to find a friend. After showing up several places where he isn’t welcome, for instance, a wedding, he spies a small girl who works in a flower shop. She is looking very grumpy. The cloud wonders if the girl might be lonely, too.

The cloud decides to follow her to see for sure, in time it begins to consider that she isn’t lonely, but naturally, cross and grumpy.

The reader sees clues regarding her grumpiness since all the plants at the flower shop are limp and desperately needing water.

Will the cloud find a way to change things and make both of them happy?

My Thoughts

What Concerned Me: * Spoiler Alert *  I have some concerns with this story. A little girl is running a flower shop by herself. Why is she grumpy? She can’t water her flowers and needs it to rain? (I'm not sure why she can't water them with a hose.) To make the girl happy the cloud rains all night. Thus the girl and the cloud are now friends.

The cloud needed a friend so it chose to find one by fixing the girl's problem. She did no problem-solving, instead reacted to her problem by being sad and grumpy.

What I Liked Most: A story of surprising friendships.
