LOVE by Matt de la Pena

How Do You Show Love?

This gentle prose poem illustrates various things that can show love, such as the voices at the foot of a crib. A Mother’s embrace after a bad dream is love.
"And it's love in each deep crease of your grandfather's face as he lowers himself onto an overturned bucket to fish."
The various illustrations depict diverse people and situations.

My Thoughts

What Concerned Me: I would recommend this more for 6 - 8 rather than the low-end of the age recommendation given by the publisher. In fact, the text almost seemed like it would be more meaningful to adults. If so, that may make it easier for adults to share the feelings and experiences with children as they read the story to them.

What I Liked Best:  Because of the diversity, the story demonstrates and celebrates the bonds of love that connect us all.
