My Pillow Keeps Moving! by Laura Gehl

 - Are You Ready For Some Giggles? -

The first spread in the book shows a cat and dog shivering outside a store called The Pillow Place. The signs in the window guarantee that their sale pillows are soft and fluffy. While the cat seems unsure we see the dog slip through the door and curl up on a  pile of pillows.

We then see a man’s yellow arm point to the top of the pile of pillows to the “dog” pillow. He is wearing glasses, but we can assume he needs stronger lenses. Kitty watches from outside as the man in a yellow coat and green bow tie walks from the store with a bag.

Surprise! The dog’s head sticks out of the sack. We then see illustrations of a very restless night for the man and his new pillow.

The next day the man tries to return the pillow.
“I bought a pillow here and I think it is broken.”
The cat is watching through the store window as this is happening. But the man is in for a surprise, the clerk determines that the pillow he bought is soft and fluffy so it isn’t broken. As the clerk gives the customer a large sticker that says, “I’M A HAPPY PILLOW PLACE CUSTOMER” we see the dog slipping out the shop door.

But will the man with a yellow coat and glasses be without the dog for long? And what about the cat?

This adventure may take a few more twists and turns as well as bring about a few more smiles!

My Thoughts

What Concerned Me: Nothing

What I Liked Most:  This has certainly found its way into my pile of favorite picture books. It’s funny and the illustrations are colorful and full of details that kids and adults will appreciate. Many of the pages don’t have words, but the illustrations tell the story. The ending is very cute and satisfying.
